Here’s the former tank commander Mike Pompeo, Trump’s neocon secretary of state, addressing the Iranian people over Voice of America—or more accurately, the voice of the CIA.
The U.S. has great respect for the people of #Iran, and I believe it’s important for us to hear from them directly. So I asked the Iranian people to send me questions. I received more than 100,000 questions. Go to @USAdarFarsi to see my answers to many of them. pic.twitter.com/oFyOKmkqdT
National Security Adviser John Bolton has also voiced support for the group [MEK], in part because they represent an organized group with the aim of taking down the current Iranian government. That’s not a judgment on the nature of their organization, so to speak, or on the fact that they were included on a State Department list of terrorist groups until 2012.
Mojahedin-e-Khalq Organization (MEK) or (MKO) is a brutal totalitarian organization accused of crimes against humanity in addition to mistreating its own cult members. If it manages to rule Iran, we can expect thousands of executions on par or worse than those committed by the tyrant Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the late Shah of Iran overthrown in a popular revolution.
“According to overwhelming evidence the former militant group has turned into a repressive sect far removed from the respectable image the representatives of this group display when visiting the European Parliament,” a statement issued by European political groups declared in 2011 following remarks made by MKO sympathizer and Vice-President of the European Parliament Alejo Vidal-Quadras.
Mike Pompeo, the former boss of the world’s most prolific terror organization, the CIA, climbed up on his high State Department horse Saturday and lectured us on the crimes of the “sick tyrant” Nicholas Maduro.
We denounce Maduro’s refusal to let humanitarian assistance reach #Venezuela. What kind of a sick tyrant stops food from getting to hungry people? The images of burning trucks filled with aid are sickening. pic.twitter.com/bJ1Qsxkgx8
This little tweeted tirade was intended for the ignorant masses in America who know virtually nothing about Venezuela beyond what a lying and script-reading corporate media tells them.
For instance, they don’t know Russia and other countries have sent food and supplies to Venezuela and the US-orchestrated events on the border are designed to make you think Maduro is denying aid and willfully starving his people.
Pompeo would also have you believe evil Cuban communists are calling the shots in Venezuela.
Cuban agents are directing attacks on the people of #Venezuela on behalf of Maduro. The Venezuelan military should do its duty, protect the country’s citizens, and prevent the Havana puppeteers from starving hungry children. #EstamosUnidosVE
So, what are these vile communists doing? In return for subsidized oil, they are providing doctors and diplomats.
But if you read The War Street Journal, you will get a different picture: the Cubans are orchestrating the murder of Venezuelans and spying on Venezuelan army officers to head off a coup.
“If the international community wants to head off disaster, a good place to start would be in Havana,” Mary Anastasia O’Grady wrote for the newspaper in 2017.
Neocon favorite Marco Rubio let it be known what the US has in mind for Maduro. He tweeted out this on Sunday:
Senator Marco Rubio tweets picture of slain Gaddafi in an apparent threat to Venezuela’s Maduro. Rubio championed overthrowing Gaddafi, claiming in 2011 “a new beginning for the people”. The resulting civil war left it with tens of thousands killed, terrorism & slave markets. https://t.co/M9fbiBhFvk
Prior to this, Rubio posted a couple photos of Manuel Noriega, the CIA’s favored drug kingpin who fell from favor.
Noriega’s useful past for the neoliberal cartel is of course not mentioned by Rubio.
“Noriega was recruited as a CIA informant while studying at a military academy in Peru,” writes Mark Tran. “He received intelligence and counterintelligence training at the School of the Americas at Fort Gulick, Panama, in 1967, as well as a course in psychological operations at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He was to remain on the CIA payroll until February 1988.”
The Panamanian dictator “made himself valuable to the US during the Contra wars when he allowed the US to set up listening posts in Panama and by helping the US campaign against the leftist Sandinista regime in Nicaragua. Noriega allowed Panama to be used as a conduit for US money and weapons for the Contras as then US president Ronald Reagan sought to undermine the Sandinistas. But Noriega’s increasing brutality turned him into a liability, especially after the assassination of Hugo Spadafora, a political opponent who was found beheaded in 1985.”
After the 1988 Senate subcommittee on terrorism, narcotics and international operations concluded that US support for Noriega “represents one of the most serious foreign policy failures for the United States,” the first Bush administration decided the small Central America country with its strategically invaluable canal must be invaded and Noriega taken down.
Rubio also didn’t mention the fact after Noriega was removed the new government agreed to ditch the Torrijos treaties, under which all US military bases in Panama would be shut down by the year 2000.
Meanwhile, those of us who can’t find Venezuela on a map will likely fall for the narrative pushed by the corporate media as it reads from its government script.
As noted by Mark Cook of FAIR, the propaganda media in the US has engaged in serial and pathological lying about Venezuela.
In other words, those of us who either refuse to do our homework, are intellectually incurious, and take the media’s gross distortions and lies as a matter of fact will support the continuation and escalation of economic sanctions and the growing probability of war waged against not only Venezuela, but Nicaragua and Cuba as well.
It’s late 2002, early 2003 again. This time, instead of the evil (former CIA asset) Saddam Hussein posing a dire threat to America, it’s Iran and Hezbollah stationed in Venezuela.
Throw in the perennial enemy of a post-colonial Caribbean, Castro’s Cuba, and we have the makings for yet another military intervention on our hands, according to Sec. State Pompeo.
There is little evidence of any hanky panky vis-à-vis Hezbollah in Venezuela. If there is indeed a Hezbollah presence in Caracas or anywhere else in South America, this would be quite natural given the practice of international diplomacy. Hezbollah is part of the Lebanese government and representative of Shia Muslims in Lebanon. Like hundreds of other political parties and governments, it has a military or paramilitary component.
But that’s not what we see in the West. Instead, for us—thanks to decades of propaganda, both American and Israeli—Hezbollah is a ruthless terrorist group on par with ISIS and directed by venal mullahs in Iran.
Fact is, if Israel had not invaded and occupied Southern Lebanon, Hezbollah probably wouldn’t exist. It came together as a resistance group against and illegal a brutal occupation. If not for Hezbollah, the IDF would have rolled right over the south of Lebanon in 2006. The all-powerful IDF lost that conflict, and it will lose the next one.
Pompeo’s claim America is at risk due Hezbollah’s presence or lack thereof has a familiar ring. It’s the same load of neocon manure dumped on the American people back in 2003. Americans were still reeling from the 9/11 attacks and this gave the neocons the opportunity to flatten Iraq.
Few corporate mockingbirds will tell you Pompeo is a liar and there will not be Hezbollah pickup trucks crossing the Rio Grande (a sort of feed-loop on Reagan’s Sandinista caravan reaching America to kill Americans and impose a godless communism on the survivors).
Pompeo and his clueless boss—captivated by his son-in-law and the Israelis—are pulling a redux, this time with Iran and the added misadventure of Venezuela thrown in for good (neoliberal) measure.
Bibi Netanyahu misspoke. During a “pace conference” in Warsaw, Poland he said Israel wants war with Iran, then he turned around and said that’s not what he meant and “war” in Hebrew has a different meaning.
Israel has pushed the idea of a “war” against Iran for decades. Iran sits atop a list of countries Bibi and the Likudniks want to take out. It was “mission accomplished” in Iraq and Libya, but a failure in Syria. Iran is a tough nut to crack and not a pushover like Iraq (where twelve years of brutal sanctions worked to soften the country up prior to the Bush dynasty’s second round of “creative destruction”).
Here’s Bibi calling for mass murder in the lead-up to his destruction of Iraq. I say “his” because the “war” was orchestrated by a coterie of Likudnik operatives in the Bush administration.
“If you take out Saddam,” Netanyahu told Congress in 2002, “I guarantee you that it will have enormous positive reverberations on the region. And I think that people sitting right next door in Iran… will say the time of such regimes, of such despots is gone.” pic.twitter.com/ZNTxpSP3a2
If you believe there are multiple meanings of the word “war” in Hebrew and Bibi misspoke or his true meaning was lost in translation, you’re not paying attention. The Israeli state is eager to kill Iranians and flatten Tehran in similar fashion to Aleppo or Fallujah.
Bibi will need Sunni Arabs—in particular the vicious Wahhabi brand—Europe, and of course the United States, for his master plan to be a success. That’s what’s going on right now in Poland—a sort of pre-war powwow, getting all the ducks lined up in a row.
But if you listen to the wife of a former Federal Reserve chairman, Netanyahu and VP Pence are in Poland to honor Jews who died in the Warsaw Ghetto uprising. Andrea Mitchell managed to implicate the Polish government in that sad historical event. Did she forget the Nazis invaded Poland?
Mike Pompeo was a bit more circumspect in his language. He declared “pushing back”—economic warfare eventually followed up with bombing raids—will solve the region’s problems.
My dispatch from the summit in Poland that’s definitely not about Iran:
-Pence: Europe must abandon nuclear deal with Iran -Pompeo: It’s time to ‘confront Iran’ -Netanyahu: Let’s ‘combat’/go to ‘war’ with Iran -Giuliani: We need Iran regime-change https://t.co/Jd4jrLnlsu
The former tank commander said Israel has the “right” to defend itself, but didn’t bother to enlighten on the particular threat the Jewish state—flush with billions of US dollars and military hardware—faces.
Certainly not nuclear bombs. It is well-known, despite the fantasies of Likudniks and converts like Pompeo, Iran doesn’t have a nuclear weapons program. Israel, on the other hand, has a long secret nuclear program and steadfastly refuses to declare its nukes. Iran understands there is no shortage of homicidal lunatics in Israel, most prominently Bibi who would like you to believe “war” means something entirely different in Hebrew.
The Warsaw confab is dedicated to a singular purpose—organizing the destruction of Iran with the blessing of Iran’s Arab neighbors. Bibi hopes to put together an Arab force for an invasion, thus making sure Arabs and Americans—the latter will undoubtedly be sucked into this quagmire—die to make Israel safe for apartheid and rabid settler serial murder of Palestinians.
Meanwhile, the Christian Zionist Mike Pence demands Europe withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal.
Honored to speak at #WarsawSummit. The time has come for our European partners to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal & join us as we bring the economic & diplomatic pressure necessary to give the Iranian people, the region, & the world the peace, security & freedom they deserve. pic.twitter.com/Eez267BFeV
If we can believe the Islamophobe Pamela Geller, Pence has warned the evil mullahs want to perpetuate a “new Holocaust” that will “erase Israel from the map.”
Obviously, Ms. Geller lacks imagination, preferring instead to fall back on a discredited fantasy that Iran wants to kill every last Jew in the Middle East, never mind that any attempt to do so would result in it becoming an irradiated parking lot.
Mike Pence: Iran is plotting a ‘new Holocaust’ that would ‘erase Israel from the map’ as he urges European Union nations to withdraw from Obama-era nuclear dea: Does anyone believe Europe is capable of doing the right thing? https://t.co/DiOGbkOpTLpic.twitter.com/1gd3ncubzt
There is a little propaganda sideshow coinciding with the war summit in Poland. Monica Witt, a former US counterintelligence officer, was charged this week with spying for the Iranian government. The indictment followed on the heels of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani’s promise to resist economic and psychological attacks by the United States.
Finally, the charade in Warsaw allowed the cult of personality around Maryam Rajavi and her terroristic MEK (People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran) to gain media attention. Rudy Giuliani was on hand to give a speech urging violence, murder, and social and political chaos in Iran.
Ambassador Daniel Benjamin, Director of the John Sloan Dickey Center for International Understanding at Dartmouth College and former Coordinator for Counterterrorism at the State Department, hit the bull’s eye when he said, “[Giuliani] seems wholly addicted to the group’s honorarium checks, and he refuses to let it bother him that the MEK has American blood on its hands. He is the picture of a man without principle.”
I believe that’s too kind. Giuliani is sociopath dedicated to Israel’s hegemonic drive in the Middle East and its willingness to kill thousands and possibly millions of Iranians, so long as the killing is done by Arabs and, of course, stupid Americans brainwashed into the belief that mass murder and the starvation of children are characteristics of the neoliberal form of democracy.
John Bolton, Trump’s national security adviser and a neocon’s neocon, recently said the US will “use any means necessary” to push back against the International Criminal Court (ICC) and its commitment to punish war crimes. Bolton warned the US will sanction and arrest individuals investigating war crimes and the torture of detainees, the latter conducted by “patriots,” according to Bolton. He added that frustrating prosecution of war crimes “remains one of my proudest achievements.”
In 2002, the US, Israel, Saudi Arabia, and China refused to sign the ICC’s founding document, thus indicating they would continue to use siege warfare, famine, torture, ethnic cleansing, rape, and wholesale murder of innocent civilians.
For more than 70 years, Israel has shot, bombed, and ethnically cleansed Palestinian Arabs. Saudi Arabia has produced the worst humanitarian crisis in recent memory as it continues to viciously attack Yemen with the help of the United States. China continues its “strike hard” campaign against Uyghur opposition, the ethnic cleansing of Tibetan monastics, and the expansion of its laogai forced labor camps (where consumer goods are manufactured and then sold to Walmart shopping Americans).
A normal, non-psychopathic person would undoubtedly recoil at the thought of Iranian children starving, but then we’re talking about neocons responsible for the engineered murder of 1.5 million Iraqis, including 500,000 children under the Bush-Clinton sanctions regime.
Hillary Clinton isn’t considered a card-carrying neocon, yet she stands shoulder to shoulder with Dick Cheney, Paul Wolfowitz, and John Bolton when it comes to killing recalcitrant Arabs, Muslims, and other enemies of Israel and Saudi Arabia, and prevent what the late Zbigniew Brzezinski described as vassals and barbarians coming together in organized resistance to neoliberal geostrategy of domination and exploitation.
Mike Pompeo’s psychopathic ultimatum was not widely covered by the corporate media. The apathy and intellectual laziness of the American people make genocide, siege warfare, starvation, and other crimes against humanity possible, mostly due to incessant lies and distortions produced by a corporate media acting as a propaganda ministry for the war state.
There has not been a viable—or even visible—antiwar movement since the days of George W. Bush, thanks in large part of the political voodoo of Barack Obama and his CFR, Trilateral Commission, and Bilderberg insiders, basically the same folks now calling the shots for the geopolitical ignoramus, Donald Trump.
I filled up today. Unleaded had gone from $2.65 to $2.75 overnight. It will go even higher as Trump’s sanctions imposed on Iran go into effect and markets are restricted.
Once again, we have to pay for a neocon foreign policy apparently welded into place for good in Washington.
The EU is resisting this act of war. It’s working on ways around the sanctions. This elicited the ire of the resident neocon, John Bolton.
“We do not intend to allow our sanctions to be evaded by Europe or anyone else,” the national security adviser, John Bolton, said about Iranian sanctions. The European Union is still trying. https://t.co/FZ6dUY2JOS
All but a select few will be expected to sacrifice.
Pompeo said India will be given a waiver. China and India import half of Iran’s oil. France was denied a waiver, so if the EU doesn’t find a way around the sanctions quandary, its industries and people will be required to suffer so the neocons might realize their dream—complete US and Israeli hegemony in the Middle East.
Speaking of Bolton, you can bet he will have a direct hand in choosing the next UN ambassador, one that will be part of the neocon club, not a pretend neocon like Nikki Haley. I’m sure her belligerence—much of it unprecedented—aimed at Russia and Iran was sincerely appreciated by dyed-in-the-wool neocons like Bill Kristol and the Kagan brothers.
#IranSanctions working | “The fear (#Iran’s) now is whether the person who replaces her will take an even tougher line against the UN, especially with National Security Adviser John Bolton now in the White House” https://t.co/Q1uArY1TKq
I’d say the attention she drew to herself during a short tenure is a PR effort ahead of a 2020 presidential run.
John Bolton and Mike Pompeo now run US foreign policy. Both want to starve the people of Iran until they are so desperate they revolt, thus allowing the MEK cult of personality—the favored neocon choice—to take over and set-up a bizarre form of totalitarianism, part Marxist and part Islamic. A new version of Savak, the Shah’s brutal secret police, will not be far behind.
In Bolton’s Orwellian world, up is down and black is white. In regard to terrorism, Iran does not remotely approach the decades of evil behavior by Saudi Arabia and its Wahhabi cousins sitting on a bounty of oil in the Persian Gulf.
Viewed through the neocon lens, terrorism becomes counterterrorism. In Syria US counterterrorism kills innocent men, women, and children in the thousands. Counterterrorism slaughtered 30,000 Libyans. It destroyed Iraq—before 1991 the most advanced nation in the Middle East—after two family dynasty invasions killed around 1.5 million Iraqis.
Finally, it’s fairly obvious the neocon endgame for is in fact a repeat of the Iraq sanctions between the two Bush invasions. After the International Court of Justice said the US must allow humanitarian and medial supplies into Iran, Pompeo announced termination of the six decade old Treaty of Amity between the two countries (two years after the CIA overthrow the democratically elected leader of the country).
Pompeo said that while the United States is “disappointed the court failed to recognize it has no jurisdiction,” he framed the ruling as a defeat for Iran.
“Iran is abusing the ICJ for political and propaganda purposes, and their case, as you can see from the decision, lacked merit,” he said. “Given Iran’s history of terrorism, ballistic missile activity and other malign activity, Iran’s claims under the treaty are absurd.
Pompeo and Bolton believe endangering Iranian aviation and impeding the delivery of humanitarian aid are chock full of merit. They plan no less than to malnourish and starve the people of Iran—similar to the way Iraqis were starved and allowed to die as a result of sanctions imposed on medicine and water purification technology targeted as dual-use.
But then crimes against humanity and flaunting the laws of war are now the norm in America, and have been in one form or other since at least the end of the Second World War.
Prior to George W. Bush illegally rolling into Iraq based on a passel of lies, Bill Clinton oversaw Papa Bush’s medieval sanctions on the country. The sanctions were not intended to stop Saddam Hussein from building WMDs as we were told by The New York Times and The Washington Post.
They were put in place to starve the Iraqi people, deny basic medical supplies, and turn the country into a failed state. The process resulted in the death of half a million Iraqi children.
Madeline Albright, Clinton’s Secretary of State, went on national television and said the murder of 500,000 Iraqi children was a price worth paying.
Now we have Mike Pompeo, Trump’s secretary of state, demanding similar sanctions imposed on Iran.
On Wednesday, Pompeo said the US will terminate a treaty with Iran put into place in 1955, two years after the CIA engineered a coup ousting the democratically elected leader Mohammad Mosaddegh.
The long forgotten Treaty of Amity was brought up by the International Court of Justice when it ruled the US must lift sanctions that affect the import of humanitarian goods and products.
The Hague said in a preliminary decision the US must “remove, by means of its choosing, any impediments arising from” sanctions that affect exports to Iran of medicine, medical devices, food, agricultural commodities and equipment necessary to ensure the safety of civil aviation, according to a report at Fox News.
The ICJ’s attempt to prevent the Trump administration from engaging in massive crimes against humanity, according to Pompeo, is “meritless” and accused the international court of “attempting to interfere with the sovereign rights of the United States to take lawful actions necessary to protect our national security and abusing the ICJ for political and propaganda purposes.”
Trump and his top neocon adviser John Bolton insist the International Criminal Court has no authority. “As far as America is concerned, the ICC has no jurisdiction, no legitimacy, and no authority,” Trump told the General Assembly at the United Nations. “The ICC claims near-universal jurisdiction over the citizens of every country, violating all principles of justice, fairness, and due process. We will never surrender America’s sovereignty to an unelected, unaccountable, global bureaucracy.”
The US is not a party to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court. Bill Clinton signed the Rome Statue in 2000, but it wasn’t sent to the Senate to be ratified. The Bush administration sent a note informing the Secretary-General that it would not ratify the Rome Statute and did not recognize any obligation toward it. Like the Trump administration, the Bush administration openly demonstrated hostility toward the idea of holding nations accountable for war crimes.
The US backed up this defiance by passing the American Service Members Protection Act in 2002 ahead of the Iraq invasion. The law includes a provision to “use all means necessary and appropriate to bring about the release of any U.S. or allied personnel being detained by, on behalf of, or at the request of the International Criminal Court.” Additionally, the act permits the president to order military action against the Court, which resulted in critics calling it the “Hague Invasion Act.”
However, the Bush administration and its neocons decided the ICC would be of use on a selective basis—against its official roster of enemies.
The former Bush UN ambassador (by recess appointment) and current top Trump administration neocon John Bolton declared war on the ICC after it announced it would investigate war crimes in Afghanistan. Bolton said the US will level sanctions against the international organization if it proceeds.
Trump and Bolton are clearing the decks in preparation of military action against Iran. They would like to see a return of brutal sanctions used for over a decade in Iraq.
Iran understands what this means: rapid deterioration of health, targeting water purification (a primary objective in Iraq), communications, agriculture, and medical infrastructure.
The US stated sanctions would remain in place even if Saddam Hussein decided to cooperate with the United Nations, thus demonstrating the sanctions and subsequent second invasion were not about WMDs and unfounded threats to America. The objective was to destroy Iraq, kill its people, and reduce the country to failed state status.
Neocon “creative destruction” is focused on making certain Iran does not pose a challenge to the hegemonic rule of the United States and Israel. Both Israel and the fossilized Sunni-Wahhabi emirates in the Persian Gulf avidly support destroying Iran and killing millions of its people.
It is entirely bizarre how an obvious lie can be furbished into truth and this is widely accepted not only by apparatchiks of the war party, but a large segment of the American people.
The Big Lie: Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea are determined to stick their noses in our hallowed elections and take down America because, as Dubya declared, they hate us for our freedoms, etc.
This idiocy is maintained… well, because it works sufficiently on a dumbed-down public. Joseph Goebbels said that government should adhere to “the principle that when one lies, one should lie big, and stick to it.” This should be maintained “even at the risk of looking ridiculous.”
Here’s Mike Pompeo, the former Congress critter who emerged from the shadows to run the CIA and now the State Department. Indeed, Mr. Pompeo looks ridiculous, but apparently few seem to notice. It’s an absurdity that may very well result in the end of life on planet Earth.
.@SecPompeo: “There are many countries seeking to meddle in our elections: the Chinese, the Iranians, the North Koreans, and certainly, what the Russians did in 2016 are all clear indications that there are those who want to undermine American democracy,” pic.twitter.com/0NCSZ2JNDL
Mike knows—and if he doesn’t he’s an intellectual midget—that none of the nations he ticked off during his interview with the propaganda conduit Fox News are responsible for doing anything—even the insignificant—to meddle in our elections.
One has to wonder if Pompeo got his talking points from the DNC, the masters of election meddling (as Bernie Sanders knows) along with its junior partner in crime, the Republicans.
The United States has not only meddled in foreign elections, it has also killed people posing a political threat to the establishment and its foreign policy (e.g., Arbenz in Guatemala, Lumumba in the Congo, the decades long attempt to kill Castro, the plot against Hugo Chávez in Venezuela, and much, much more, including the assassinations of Malcolm X, the Kennedy brothers, and Martin Luther King).
Here’s another Big Lie Pompeo pawned off on the American people. It is truly remarkable anybody believes these brazenly obvious misrepresentations.
We’ll ensure those with a fire of faith in their hearts can exercise their God-given right to express it. From Iranian Christians & Uighur Muslims to detainees in North Korea & Turkey, we won’t rest until believers are free to live their faith without fear of persecution. #VVS18pic.twitter.com/fTCsbrNAk0
Detainees. Here in America, we have a few of our own. For instance, Jamal Joseph, Laura Whitehorn, Eddie Ellis, Patricia Levasseur, Assata Shakur (née Joanne Chesimard), members of the Bundy family, Edward and Elaine Brown, and others who died while in prison for political thought crime and activism: Richard Williams, Warren Wells, Teddy Jah Heath, Albert Nuh Washington, Merle Austin Africa, and Kuwasi Balagoon.
It doesn’t matter what we think of the political motivations right or wrong of some of these people, but that’s not the point. All were convicted for thought crimes and refusing to worship the state and its mandates, including those refusing to pay taxes or recognize theft of land and property by the state.
But Pompeo wasn’t talking about America’s political prisoners. Moreover, it is entirely fair to say he doesn’t care about the fate of Uighur Muslims or even Iranian Christians. These are merely pawns in a propaganda war ahead of the real McCoy.
Mike’s all talk now. He has yet to top the track record of one of his predecessors, Hillary Clinton, responsible for killing Gaddafi in Libya along with 30,000 other Libyans (she cackled live on TV in response to Gaddafi’s brutal murder), and facilitated arming crazed jihadists in Syria in a manufactured war that has claimed the lives of over 600,000 Syrians.
Talk may soon turn into action in Syria and North Korea despite the fake handshakes and a parroting corporate media dispensing glad tidings about peace and friendship.
The neoconization of the Trump administration is in full-swing. The Trump-cons are prepared to one-up a vacillating Obama, the man who increased illegal drone attacks in Pakistan, ratcheted up the war on journalists, and won the Noble Peace Prize for his murderous actions in Syria and Libya.
According to Bob Woodward’s latest book, Secretary of Defense Jim “Mad Dog” Mattis believes President Trump has the intellectual and emotional capacity of a fifth- or sixth-grader. Mattis, of course, denies saying this, but true or not the remark undoubtedly angered Trump, the midnight tweeter with a massive ego who never misses an opportunity to go after his political enemies, spewing invective and disparagement.
Now there are rumors circulating that Mattis will step down in the months ahead. If this happens, who will replace him?
According to The Washington Post, it may be four-star Army Gen. Jack Keane, or possibly the senators Tom Cotton and Lindsey Graham.
“Depending on the party balance in the Senate after the November elections, Republican leadership may not want to risk losing one its caucus members, especially Cotton, who defeated a Democrat for his seat in 2014,” reports the Post. “Graham has said repeatedly he is not interested in serving in the Cabinet.”
However, if Trump’s national security adviser, John Bolton, has anything to say about the vacancy there will be a neocon in that position to compliment the one heading up the State Department.
Mattis put on the best face when Bolton was appointed. “He’s going to come over this week. Last time I checked he’s an American. I can work with an American… It’s going to be a partnership,” he said.
Arkansas senator Cotton (or Graham), Bolton, and Sec. State Pompeo would be an almost ideal triad for Israel and the neocons who faithfully do the apartheid state’s bidding in Congress.
For Cotton, it’s all about Israel and the Likudniks. He received $700,000 for his Senate campaign from the Emergency Committee for Israel.
“During the 2014 Israeli invasion of Gaza, when over 500 Palestinian were killed, Cotton called the Israeli defense force ‘the most moral, humanitarian fighting force in the world.’ In December he said Congress should consider supplying Israel with B-52s and so-called ‘bunker-buster’ bombs for a possible strike against Iran,” Medea Benjamin and Nalini Ramachandran wrote back in March, 2015.
Cotton, like Bolton and Pompeo, wants to bomb Iran. He called the nuclear deal with Iran, which was later trashed by Trump, akin to “appeasement of Nazi Germany.”
He called for a “war on Islamic Terror,” which of course means Iran, not Saudi Arabia, long known to support terrorists who are sadistic head choppers.
We can’t win the war on Islamic terror on defense, we have to win on offense,”Cotton told CNN. In a speech to The Heritage Foundation the day before, Cotton had compared the negotiations of the P5+1 (the U.S., Russia, China, the U.K. and France, plus Germany) with Iran to the appeasement of Nazi Germany.
Cotton shares a relationship with Bill Kristol, the uber neocon publisher of the Weekly Standard. “Kristol saw a kindred spirit in Cotton’s aggressive national-security hawkishness, and the men developed what Kristol describes as ‘a bond beyond pure policy,’” writes Molly Ball.
Cotton is not merely another opportunistic politician clawing his way up the political ladder. He is a dyed-in-the-wool neocon. Both Kristol and Cotton studied under Harvey Mansfield, a disciple of Leo Strauss, the grand daddy of neoconservatism.
Many of the donors to his Senate campaign are Likudnik hardliners, including Paul Singer and Seth Klarman. John Bolton’s PAC, also financed by Likudniks, dished out over $825,000 to support Cotton’s Senate run.
If Bolton has any say in the decision to replace Mattis, Tom Cotton will be the next Secretary of Defense.
Fortunately, it looks like Cotton probably won’t take the job because he believes it will frustrate his desire to be president.
I’ve said this for years. The neocon strategy in the Middle East is total, unrelenting war and mass murder, not the delivery of “democracy,” but rather to destabilize and remake nations into compliant client states approved of by Israel.
This is the Trump response to the battle for Idlib, where a US engineered proxy, al-Qaeda, is holed up.
However, it probably isn’t fair to call this a Trump decision. The Donald doesn’t make foreign policy calls—unless his daughter is upset about something like staged chemical attacks—and he has delegated foreign policy strategy and decisions to the Pentagon and his neocon national security adviser, John Bolton, and the former CIA boss, now secretary of state, Mike Pompeo.
Recall Trump saying our only business in Syria is the fight to eradicate the Islamic State. However, this threat was largely suppressed by Russia and Iran, not Trump, Pompeo, and Mad Dog.
According to The Washington Post, Trump’s secretary of defense and his secretary of state, Mike Pompeo made this “rediscovery” of Syria while the nation was distracted by the death of John McCain.
Sergey Lavrov is defending Syrian and Russian assault on #Idlib. The Russians and Assad agreed not to permit this. The U.S sees this as an escalation of an already dangerous conflict.
Trump’s neocon national security adviser, John Bolton, “warned publicly last week that the United States would respond ‘very strongly’ if President Bashar al-Assad’s regime used chemical weapons,” in other words, if the elected leader of Syria tries to remove the last vestiges of US-Saudi Wahhabi mercenaries from his country, the US will respond “very strongly,” that is to say more bombs will fall, more innocents will die, and Russia may very well be targeted in Syria.
The alliance between US and Israel has never been stronger. I look forward to discussing a range of challenges and opportunities – Iran chief among them – that confront our two nations. pic.twitter.com/JOgQ4tzy3U
U.S. goals in Syria have been sketched publicly by Pompeo and Mattis: withdrawal of all Iranian-commanded forces from the country, rather than just from a 50-mile buffer zone along the Israel border, as in the deal Russia arranged; and a political transition that can prevent Syria from becoming a terrorist base again and stabilize it enough that refugees can return to their homes. Pompeo and Mattis want more U.S. involvement in the Geneva deliberations on a political transition, too.
In short, Syria’s capitulation to Israel and the neocons.
This is not going to happen and Bolton, Mattis, and Pompeo know it. The ultimate plan for Syria was formalized decades ago by Israel and later adopted by a gaggle of Israel-first neocons.
Israel, however, knows it does not have the military resources to push into Syria and depose al-Assad and drive out the Iranians, so that job will be completed by the United States. “Israeli officials say they’ve concluded that only the United States can drive Iranian commanders from the field,” reports the Post.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said last week the al-Qaeda associate Levant Liberation Committee planned a false flag chemical attack “in the northern Idlib province, and that it would be filmed by first-responders known as the White Helmets, who Russia has accused of fabricating past attacks,” the Associated Press reported.
According to Russian Maj. Gen. Alexei Tsygankov, British special services were to be used for the false flag.
That brought a heated denial Tuesday from Britain’s U.N. ambassador. “Even by the egregious standards of Russian propaganda, this is an extraordinary allegation,” Karen Pierce said during a Security Council session on the humanitarian situation in Syria. “It is wholly untrue.”
However, considering the history of British intelligence and centuries of brutal colonialism and violence by the United Kingdom, Ms. Pierce’s denial holds little water. As the findings of the Chilcot committee revealed, the UK is up to its neck in collusion with the US and its wars.
How to counter Tsygankov’s accusation? Denounce it as “fake news,” the now preferred method of countering all that challenges the narrative, in this case a fictional account that lacks any evidence to turn it into a fact.
She said the claim was either aimed at disseminating “fake news” or “as a smoke screen for a possible impending attack by the Syrian regime, once again against its own people, in Idlib.”
It’s own people?
The Levant Liberation Committee (Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham) is a terrorist group that wants to establish a Salafist caliphate in Syria. It is led by Abu Mohammad al-Julani, the emir of Jabhat Fateh al-Sham, who also led its predecessor, al-Nusra Front, otherwise known as al-Qaeda in Syria.
Bolton and Pompeo must now decide how to proceed. The false flag chemical attack was exposed by the Russians, but that doesn’t mean the Trump neocons will jettison the plan.
The neocons rely on The Washington Post and The New York Times to put the appropriate spin on things in order to keep the American people in the dark.
