CNN piles on Trump, highlights Pelosi’s criticism

CNN ran multiple articles critical of President Donald Trump’s handling of protesters in the nation’s capital, but it ignored the lack of condemnation of rioting by Democratic congressional leaders House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.

The cable news network headlined Pelosi’s criticism, “Pelosi cites Ecclesiastes in response to Trump, says it is a time for healing.” The article narrowed in on Pelosi’s rebuttal to Trump’s photo op outside of St. John’s Church near Capitol Hill, where police dispersed protesters to permit the president to visit the outside of the church, but it did not mention how Pelosi or Schumer responded to reports of widespread looting and rioting.

Trump’s rhetoric, though inflammatory, emphasized the importance of restoring law and order to the streets and prevent the further destruction of small businesses and private property. The media criticized his rhetoric, but the likes of CNN have let Democratic leaders off scot-free when it comes to taking a stand against looting, rioting, and destruction of private property.

Pelosi and Schumer released a joint statement condemning police brutality, but neither condemned looting and rioting in cities across the country. The statement blasted the president, “Yet, at a time when our country cries out for unification, this President is ripping it apart.  Tear-gassing peaceful protestors without provocation just so that the President could pose for photos outside a church dishonors every value that faith teaches us.” Their statement also blamed Trump for his “continued fanning of the flames od discord, bigotry and violence is cowardly, weak and dangerous.”

CNN’s focus was on Trump, his church photo op, and Democratic leaders’ criticism of his photo op, but it ignored the reality that looting and rioting is also dangerous for American business owners and their employees.
