Mainstream Media Ignores ‘Impeach Kavanaugh’ Protests

On the one-year anniversary of the confirmation of Supreme Court associate justice Brett Kavanaugh, progressive protesters gathered outside the Supreme Court in Washington, D.C. to call for his impeachment. The protesters blocked traffic outside of the court and chanted phrases such as, “impeach the motherf—er!”

But the mainstream media decided not to report on or cover the protest on the one-year anniversary of Kavanaugh’s confirmation, despite the intense media coverage of Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearings. Right-leaning and conservative media outlets covered the protests, but major mainstream media outlets and networks did not cover it.

As the right-leaning media outlet Washington Examiner reported, progressive congresswoman Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) joined the protests and affirmed her support for impeaching Kavanaugh. She told protesters, “Kavanaugh may have that seat — for now —but what you, what we are fighting for is so much bigger than one insecure man blinded by his privilege.” She continued, “You are fighting for the liberation, injustice, for all of us. Because you know that our destinies are tied for generations we have softened our language and moderated our tone.”

Another conservative outlet, Townhall, reported on the anti-Kavanaugh protests and noted that progressive groups, such as Women’s March, NARAL Pro-Choice America, Demand Justice, and CPD Action, organized the protest. Townhall reported that the anti-Kavanaugh protesters then marched to the alleged home of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell in the nation’s capital, leaving behind “customized caution tape and left their signs right outside.”

Newsweek and The Hill also published articles on the protests, but not CNN, NBC News, or other cable news networks. It calls into question whether the networks have moved on from the Kavanaugh media circus, especially since impeaching a sitting Supreme Court justice is difficult and has only been done once in America’s history.
