Senators Tom Cotton (R., Ark.), Ted Cruz (R., Texas), and Marco Rubio (R., Fla.) urged the Trump administration to increase pressure on Iran’s nuclear program in a Wednesday morning letter.
“We write to urge you to increase pressure on Iran’s nuclear program, in the aftermath of Iran publicly violating the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) by stockpiling more than 300kg of low-enriched uranium and threatening further violations within weeks,” the letter begins.
The senators released the letter after the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) earlier this week declared the Iranian regime’s stockpile of uranian violated limits of the Iranian nuclear deal.

“Regime officials have signaled they intend to creep towards a nuclear weapon, while demanding concessions and promising to ‘reverse’ their violations if their demands are met. We urge you to reject their nuclear blackmail,” the letter continued.
Cotton, Cruz, and Rubio offered two concrete measures the administration could take to hold the Iranian regime accountable for violating the uranium limits.
The trio of senators called for the Trump administration to stop granting civil-nuclear waivers to the regime as the Iranians have used the waivers to build a “military bunker which they dug into the side of a mountain so they could build nuclear weapons there,” according to the letter.
Additionally, the senators asked the administration to invoke the snapback mechanism in United Nations Security Council resolution 2231. Doing so would allow international restrictions against Iranian uranium enrichment, plutonium-related heavy water work, and ballistic missile development to be reinstated.
Sharply criticizing the initial Iranian nuclear deal negotiated by the Obama administration, the senators said the deal “was built to enable Iranian cheating,” and led to hundreds of millions of dollars flowing into the Middle Eastern country further allowing the regime to increase its military and nuclear infrastructure.
“We stand ready to provide you and your administration with whatever resources you need to continue rolling back Iran’s nuclear and non-nuclear malign activities,” the senators wrote, concluding the letter to the President and his administration.
